An unstated rule on the is that if your account does not feature a profile which says something about you and your interests (or the account if it’s a bot) and doesn’t have at least one post with an then your requests to are likely to be denied.

It is a rule I apply as well. Maybe next time?

Easy enough for a bot to throw up a fake profile and make a brief introduction post.

It's nice to see if there are any common interests though, sure.

Looks like Dave has two accounts. My cesponse to his request to follow was redirected to his other account which has a bit more ‘meat’ about the owner… Sorry @belvadave If you ask to follow again I’ll be happy.
