The goal was always it to be a temporary home for my YouTube content. The time has come to help MakerTube by moving my content away from there system's freeing up storage space and not costing them a monthly price for hosting.
I've got a few options; Option 1 -- I upload all channels content to this account. Making it a mix of gaming, vlogging and general posts I've done across video content.
Option 2 -- I create new accounts on solent.social where I upload these bits of content allowing me to boost it with my main account as a 'go check it out' system. (I'm questioning how I'd name them as I currently run two channels of "SamXavia" for vlogging / motorvlogging content and "SamXaviaGaming" for gaming content, but I could rather simplify this name or keep it the same as my main on here is Sam)
Option 3 -- I take more time and start up my own PeerTube instance to make sure that the content gets put onto PeerTube along with the rest of the Fediverse instead of where microblogging systems post to. This option doesn't give much benefit to me other than spending more money from what I can see but I might be missing something.
So help me, what do you think I should do? They are all okay options and have there benefits, but I do really want to make sure my content is out here on the Fediverse and it is better to have proper control / ownership of it.
@sam@MakerTube I'm all for diversifying. But you would need your own peertube instance at that point and you've already said you don't want to spend more money.

Overall, MakerTube is hosting 14.3TB of content. This -seems- like a lot, but it's really peanuts in the grand scheme of things.
Yeah, I know right? Video uses storage.
Unless makertube has explicitly told you that they want you off their platform, just donate to them if it makes you feel better.
Most likely they are setup for the long haul and have a storage server with a lot of space.
If they DONT have a lot of space remaining, they should tell their users about it.
@westfox35@MakerTube They mentioned that they are thinking about moving to a subscription model and depending on how they integrate it, it could actually cost me more than just hosting it off my Sharkey Instance or even running my own PeerTube instance if I so wished.
While I won't have the cool features of PeerTube instances I've personally found if you interacting else where on the Fediverse it's kinda janky anyway and was thinking of moving to my Sharkey instance to save hosting another instance or having another subscription service that could rise in price in the future if they need more money due to storage per user.
In the initial post I did mention it was never meant to be a forever fix to use MakerTube but would love to hear your thoughts on why I'd need to host a PeerTube instance instead of just posting the content directly to my Sharkey instance.
@MakerTube@sam I don't know your hardware, and if you don't want to discuss technical details that's fine.
I would personally (if I was in your shoes) grab TWO of those storage nodes. Then, I would setup Garage so it mirrors the data. After doing this, I would setup a cheap auction server. Then, I'd configure said auction server to route the video processing to the two 3900 CPU's on the storage nodes.
Presto. You have a setup that costs maybe ~700 euro a month and you're set for the long term.
@westfox35@sam I don’t ask anyone to move out - far the opposite! But we need a discussion how to finance storage heavy services like Peertube with increasing hosting costs. As a side note, the numbers on the tech page are not really reflecting the actual usage. It’s the user uploads only, we provide multiple resolutions per video.
